Hot Politics: Affective Responses to Politics and Their Consequences for Persuasion

It is often claimed that politics is deeply emotional, and increasingly so. Politicians seem to make more, and more extreme, emotional appeals than ever before. Citizens are angered about politics, or anxious about political developments. Sometimes they are deeply enthusiastic and hopeful about political candidates or political change. Still there are many questions about the role of emotions in politics. How fundamental are they? When do they emerge? And are there differences between people in the emotions they experience? This talk will discuss the role of both more conscious and more unconscious instantiations of emotions and report results from innovative laboratory in the field experiments conducted throughout the Netherlands and in the United States. The results of these studies will highlight the complex role of emotions in politics and how they help us understand political persuasion and polarization.

Well-being: Petting Farm Event

Do you love animals? Have you always wanted to learn about the work of an animal therapist? Then we would love to invite you to our Petting Farm Activity!! ??

The event will take place on Monday the 7th of February from 3 pm. We are going to learn about the benefits of animal therapy. You will get the opportunity to cuddle with animals at the petting zoo, listen to a talk by a licensed animal therapist and enjoy a healthy snack! ? All of this will take place at the lovely @kinderboerderijdepijp ?

Culture Event: Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum

Enjoy a guided tour of Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum from the comfort of your home! In the course of an hour, you’ll experience some of the most famous historical artwork in the Netherlands, supported by a Rijksmuseum guide. Murder Mystery Night

Hey you goons and gals,
We’re unfortunately announcing that we will be moving our first but no worries, we’ll still be providing a smashing way to make new friends, will capitalize on the darker nights this season. In teams, where you’ll meet new faces in the VSPA, you’ll be helping Tom escape from the abandoned Sanatorium in an online escape-room event!

You’ll be racing against the clock to make it out of there, by working together to find clues, solve puzzles and riddles, to get yourselves and Tom out of there!

This is an interactive, online event, using videos, websites, and video-calling platforms, which require a stable internet connection. You’ll receive a personal log-in code from the Committee where you can enter your credentials to a website that will begin the game. The game will last approximately 75 minutes.

We’re still set on making this a fun night, full of spooks, creepy twists and turns, and making some new friendships. It will still be held on January 19th and the purchase of one ticket for 3EUR will include one log-in credential to the website.
