Chatpals & Buddyproject

New students! Your first year at university can be a very confusing time. You have a lot of questions and not enough answers. That is why the VSPA, in collaboration with the UvA, is offering you a place to ask all of these questions. The VSPA has set up the email address chatpals@vspa.nl. Anything you do not understand or would like to know, whether it’s about the UvA, the study of psychology, or even about Amsterdam,  you can ask in an email to this account, and you will get an answer from an actual psychology student!

If you are looking for something more, and want to meet fellow new students, we also offer a buddy project, in which you as a new first-year will join a small WhatsApp group with other new students, under the guidance of an older psychology student. If you are new in Amsterdam and want to start meeting new people, or you need support during your mandatory quarantine, this is the option for you!

If this sounds like something you would like, you can fill out the form here, and we will be in contact with you as soon as possible!

If you have any questions, you can always send an email to info@vspa.nl

For new students: VSPAssistance

We have launched a new project called VSPAssistance. It is a place where you can find all the help and opportunities you are looking for! The VSPA assisting new students, hence the name ‘VSPAssistance‘. What it entails:

  • Frequently Asked Questions: Answer questions and set out information for first year students. It  provides information about Psychology at the UvA, living and being a student in Amsterdam, the VSPA and studying here in general. We’ve also added some topics that cover more practical matters, which will get you started here right away!
  • Soft Landing: addresses the core topics which (almost) all international students coming to the Netherlands have to deal with (think of setting up a Dutch bank account, finding a room, getting your first bike, health/travel insurances etc.) The difference with the FAQ is primarily that Soft Landing is aimed at helping you out directly, on a more practical level. We’ve done as much work as we can for you and are sure you’ll find at least some of this very helpful!

So, if you are new student coming to Amsterdam, make sure to have a look here.

As a JoHo member, you can find your summaries online. Furthermore, all events will be cancelled until at least the 6th of April. We are working hard to reschedule these events.

We will always be available for questions via our usual channels. We would also like to ask our members to follow the national guidelines and take responsibility in this crisis.

Lots of love and hopefully see you soon,
Céline, Lynn, Eli, Nina, Malou and David

Corona Update

** CORONA UPDATE **

Dear members,

Following the statement from the UvA to cancel all events up and until the 31th of March, regardless of the location, we have to cancel the upcoming events in March. These will be:
– The Friday Afternoon Borrel on the 13th of March;
– The GMA on the 17th of March;
– The Workshop on the 18th of March;
– The Committee Evening on the 27th of March;
– The Jeu de Boule event on the 31st of March.
We are working very hard to try to reschedule these events, and will keep you updated. If you already bought a ticket for the event, you will get a refund. You can expect the refund within a week.

Furthermore, all committee meetings will be canceled for the remainder of the month. Your CAO will get in touch with the chair of the committee.

Moreover, we will change the opening hours of the VSPA room this week. For now, we will open the VSPA room to sell summaries on:
Wednesday the 18th of March from 13:00-15:00
Friday the 20th of March from 13:00-15:00
We would also like to ask our members to follow the national guidelines.

These are the measures we are taking right now. Since there is a possibility that the situation changes, we would have to change our policy as well. We will keep a close eye on the developments and keep you informed through our usual channels. Don’t stress too much. We as young people are not that much at risk, we want to prevent the further spread of the virus to keep the pressure on healthcare as low as possible. ??‍⚕️??‍⚕️
